    So am I understanding properly that getting this will cause you to miss the three heart achievements, but it won't eliminate you from the damageless boss achievements?

    Yes with the exception of the cave of ordeals, you can't get the three-heart cheevos if you've bought the magic armor. However, the boss challenges only require that you don't use it. You can have it in your inventory but if you put it on and use it, it will nullify the boss challenges
