Gold Beanies have a chance of appearing inside a Pestnut after you break the spikes off. If one bro breaks the spikes off and reveals a Gold Beanie, it will run away as soon as it's its next turn. If you get one in the woods, the slower bro will have to go next. However, if you fight the underwater Pestnuts later in the game, Beanies released from their spikes will be defeated for you and you can claim a Spike Badge without having to worry about it running away. You probably won't have to worry about finding one anyways; I have like seven Spike Badges and I'm possibly halfway through the game.
