Do as dericobanjo says. Jump-dive without hesitate to the camera and of course mantain your camera distant. I suggest not using Y-cam cause takes away all your speed. You have a window frame to see Mario above the log, or just when you feel you're in a good position to land do a ground pound.

Run and jump dive at the end of the roof made this easy, if you land in the water next to a log don't move and let the damage hit then jump and move to the log, got it second try

Do yourself a favor and just practice with save states for a while. The exiting the level, the run back, the windmill ride back up, it WILL drive you mad.

I have a fairly easy method for this one. You can bring yourself to a particular edge of the windmill and line Mario up with a tiny window. From there you can just jump-dive off and its fairly consistent with landing on the first log. I recommend using save states just to get a feel for it!

Girnade's strat is phenomenal, got it first try. Line yourself up above that black circle and jump perpendicular to the edge, hold back the whole flights, and you're golden. I landed in the exact spot the video showed. Thank you :)

Absolutely incredible strat from Girnade, first try with that method.

Girnade's strat worked aces for me. The one thing I'll add is that I found when I had a bit of a running start, I kept overshooting the log the tiniest amount. Single-jumping immediately into a dive nailed the landing first try.

Thank you Girnade for making this way easier to pull off!!! I trained with save states for like 10 minutes and then ended up getting it in hardcore in 4 attempts

I actually took a break from this game because of this achievement, I tried @Girnade strat and it worked first try! Very cool. Wanted to give a shout out too @Subreon I couldn't master the spin jump gap and your video helped me big time with less stress on that gap.

+1 girnade method works. Hold back on the stick all the way down. Also thanks Subreon for the tip on skipping the spin jump.

Girnade's method worked wonders, I got it third try only because I didn't hold the stick properly, no matter the method, this achievement was still cool and fun to try!
