An alternative way to do this is before you start the race, climb to the top of the waterfall as you would do in episode 1, then do a spin jump all the way down to the boat and drive it back to the start. Then start the race and just drive the boat across. Takes more time than the posted vid, but requires less precise platforming.

The achievement can trigger even when you don't start the race, as long as you don't use the hover or swim and you touch the flag the achievement will be triggered, I don't think that's how it's meant to be

I used another jump than the one used in the video. I did a backflip (by quickly moving the stick in the opposite direction) backflip and immediatly sliding (so A+B simulteanously).

The first jump is the hardest. Platforms are not perfectly round, they have some kinds of corners, so you hav to be on the corner at the very ledge of the platform and aim for the other platform's corner (slightly on the left).
The second jump is a bit easier, stand on the ledge and aim for the boat and it should be fine :)

You can also substitute the backflip in Cocojuju13’s strategy with a triple jump. You will just need enough momentum in order for your dive jumps to be large enough to make it across the platforms.

jumping from the waterfall cliff onto the boat shack and running along the shore to the line is far easier than trying that ridiculous pixel perfect jump on a moving platform. you might even be able to win the race with my strategy https://youtu.be/vFRG5XFYl_g?si=jO-25ylix5PX0qlz&t=2027

PLEASE DO TRIPLE JUMP DIVES HOLY FUCK. i tried to do the spin jumps and got stuck on this for hours, then switched to triple jumps and got it almost immediately

Throwing in my experience; I went straight for the waterfall dive method and got this relatively quickly. Biggest place I can see people choking is on the last jump before reaching the top. You have to do a quirky corner wall jump out of a back-flip on some questionable geometry. The jump itself isn't hard, it's not bonking Mario's stupid head on the piece that clips out right above where you jump.

yeah that last jump to the top of the cliff is a doozy. nintendo definitely didn't want you wall jumping there. gotta stand almost exactly where i do in my video to make it work. (partially in the water on the edge of the pond that's about 45 degrees to the wall)
