TinyDynos' method above works best. Get a bunch of lives on 3-1 with the turtle shell trick, then keep getting the turtle shell combos on 3-2 and suiciding. If you start to run low on lives just play onward to 3-3 and then get the rest normally.

This should be 500k or 750k. Why? Getting 1 million is just boring grinding for no reason. With 500k or 750k, you can actually reasonably reach those by going through the game and being thorough and careful. Just a thought.

At first this may seem daunting, but it's actually reasonable. Some tips: (1) Obviously, don't warp, do all levels; (2) collect as many coins as you can, but don't go out of your way for hard to reach coins; (3) kill as many enemies as possible

The end of 7-1 unlocked it for me, just keep on doing the 1-up trick and stop jumping soon after. Then stomp the buzzy beetle between the gap and run into it. When you have like 5 lives, do the 1-up trick again, rinse and repeat.
