Couldn't get this one using the Mupen64plus core with Retroarch. Swapping over to the ParaLLEl core for the boss fight made it work, in case anyone else got the same issue.

Using partner attacks to defeat Chomp is completely fine, so it's best to do that in order to help Mario survive and use Thunder Bolt every turn.

I tested and earned this achievement while using Mupen64Plus; but if you are having any issues with that core please swap over to the ParaLLEl core. Placing it here officially and giving a warning in the description just in case

This one was weird for me, the first time it didn't pop and I thought it was because Tutankoopa did his self damage. Exited without saving and re-did the fight. Exact same fight, same items, everything the same the next go-around, Tutankoopa even did the self damage, but the achievement popped.

I guess if you're having issues just retry the fight. Shout-out to CassetteCobra for the Thunder Bolt strategy!

Self-Damage no longer locks the achievement. I got it after he damaged himself.

Not entirely true. He damaged himself in my first fight and I didn't get the achievement. The indicator was present right up until the moment he did self-damage.

It's maybe not consistent but self-damage can definitely still lock the achievement.

This also unlocked for me in the 2nd attempt despite him hurting himself in both fights.

My strat for this is use 2 bolts once tutan drops rocks on you I used stop watch n finished with bolts as long as it doesn't dmg itself your fine

All around this achievement seems fucked, I tried everything that was said here, I uniquiped all my badges, started with a different party member, nothing. I notice that everyone who has this achievement did it in hardcore, so I set it to that, first try.

using a thunder rage turn 2 should prevent tutankoopa from hurting himself if you have issues with it, since he'll waste a turn to summon the chain chomp again later. there's a free thunder rage in dry dry desert in a hidden block.

To emphasize what FireSonic said, the free Thunder Rage is two screens above Kolorado's camp above a rock, and there's an achievement for hitting every hidden block in the game, so that's clearly the way to go.

Also, equip the Refund badge ahead of time to make a bit of money back (3 coins per Thunder Bolt and 6 for the Thunder Rage, I think); this was maybe the first time I've ever actually really benefited from that badge at all.

Wow, that was super easy.
Didn‘t even have to use any Healing Items (to be fair, I had two HP upgrades and an HP plus Badge but still, super easy)

Somehow, even after all of the comments, I still don't know if self damage counts. I'm inclined to say yes since I didn't get it my first attempt, and nothing else hit him

After coming back with the strat offered by FireSonic, self-damage does disable this one, so make sure to avoid that. Otherwise a piece of cake. (I was playing on RAP64)
