Die on normal, hard or very hard fast in one area, repeat it 6-8 times and on the screen "you died" you'll be asked to switch on easy mode. In the beginning of the game just let the soldiers hits you, don't attack. It's better to do it on hard since they do more damage and you die quickly.

It seems you have to actually choose Yes when the game offers to lower the difficulty. I saved my game near a pit I could jump in and did so 5-6 times till the game asked me to switch to Easy. Then simply reloaded my save file.

beat this in god mode like 15 years ago.. have no shame switching to easy in that sword fight with Ares.. the final fights are not fun in the slightest. great game.. aggravating ending on hard mode at least..

you can only get the easy mode switch on hard or normal you cant get it on very hard
