What are the fail conditions for this? I beat the 5 red robots using my wrench only, and none of them damaged me. However, I used weapons on the enemies in-between, and took damage a time or two from them.

The conditions are
1. Not using any weapons but the wrench for the entire run (getting up to and fighting the red robots)
2. Not taking damage at all during the entire run through until the red robots and still take no damage fighting them

Spoiler-Free Guide: This is done the moment you first arrive on Eudora.
Your mission is just to make it through the planet's left path with Wrench Only and without taking damage. You don't have to go looking for the red robots, they're right in your way, very big. You shouldn't miss them.

Remember that you can do a ranged attack with your wrench by attacking with it while crouching. Makes this achievement extremely easy as the red robots won't attack you at all if you stay out of their melee range!

Can I make another attempt at this by leaving and revisiting the planet or do I need to start a new save? The wording was confusing so I thought that I only needed to beat the red lumberjacks without taking damage and while only using the wrench, not everything else as well.

Some clarity would be nice. Seems if you ever shoot even one weapon you're just locked out for the rest of the playthrough, even if you reset the planet in between and didn't have the suck cannon yet.

That's not true - you are able to leave the planet / press restart on the emulator and retry the achievement. The only time it is ever locked is if you have the suck cannon.

The first two Red Lumberjack Bots will respawn so you can just take out those up to the 5 needed and then get to the Suck Cannon

Those who suggested tossing your wrench at a distance are geniuses. The lumberjacks will never get near you as long as you do wrench tosses, even against the last three. Super easy once you get past the gauntlet of the OTHER thousand robots first!

Yeah I just failed this one and will have to wait for my next playthrough to try again. Really needs some rewording to make it clear that the wrench-only/no-damage requirement starts when you land the ship, not when you find the first red lumberjack.

I usually dread damageless achievements but this one wasn't too bad. While others have mentioned the ranged wrench attack, I would also like to add that the blaster blargs only fire 3 times before moving, opening them up to attacks.
