I got this by luck. Just got the last hit on him as he was starting to fire and it counted.

So this is supposed to be avoiding Kain's attacks by hitting him three times before he charges the Soul Reaver, right? Or am I missing something, because it didn't work.

I think you actually need to take the hit but avoid damage

You have to avoid the stream of the sword. A working solution is just to use the Telekinetik Shockwave right before the stream hits you. By spinning Raziel will surely avoid it. You can try it as long as you get the Cheevo (there's no "punishment" for getting hit).

No idea what that shockwave thing is. What worked for me is position myself on the throne in the centre and Kain opposite it. When he fired I jumped over the back of the throne and the beam didn't trace me through and the achievement popped

for worked to take the hit but not the damage. the moment he fires the lightning, use the force glyph, you'll be hit but will not take damage while rotating animation is happening.
