You can't return to mcniel manor or the main part of Wyndia castle after a certain point and I think you need those shelves

It worked for me. Got to the end of the game with 81. There are about 10 in the one-time only mcneil mansion right at the start of the game, including a few that you can't even see without changing camera angles. Be careful

This is missable because there's at least 3 places you can't go back to. Mcneil manor, wyndia castle and the arena.

Anybody know - can I start a new file and get some cabinets I missed early game to complete this achievement? Or is it locked to a single save file?

I think not missable since enemy area with cabinets like "Myria Station: Laboratory" counts. Just be sure to check cabinets from McNeil manor, wyndia castle and arena.
