The game's main character is from an anime, not sure if it was ever very popular, at least in the west. He's one of an ensemble. Not the main. They probably just picked him for his mascot looks. Anime ran from '95 to '96, which is when this game came out. Manga started a couple of years earlier.

Set is in core. 63 Achievements.
30 Leaderboards. Mostly Best Time. Lower is better.
20 for stages 1-4 across the levels. You cannot pause or die to submit your best (lowest) time.
6 for 6 bosses. No death or pausing. Only available through normal play.
1 for High score, and 2 for Max lives at game clear. You cannot continue from the same stage for the true end one. So if you make it to the secret stage, better finish. High score submits at game end or game over. (you have infinite continues afaik)

The game is entirely in japanese, but it's like many games where you kick blocks at the enemy, you'll miss out on the story, but it's not necessary for the game. Think Kickle cubicle meets sokoban.

Most achievements are challenge, but there are a few progression.

Using cheat codes is forbidden for all but the 3 boss [challenge] cheevos. Using it disables all cheevos until you reload the rom. Since the codes aren't widely published, you will probably have most of the set finished by the time you can use them.

5 Stage Progress Cheevos [5] x 5 pts
There are 5 Levels with 4 Stages each 1 puzzle and 1 boss. These all have challenge cheevos. No pause and/or no death allowed. The first kind requires that you line up the special gems in each stage. The last only that you don't die for multiple stages.

There is a puzzle mode which i split up into 5 achievements for 25 levels. Ended up just making them progress cheevos. You can run through in one quick sitting. 50 points for all 25 staggered across the set.

There is also a hidden boss.
Two for high score.

Various Challenges. All these are relatively easy.

The last few achievements you may get in game or by using a cheat code. If you mess up, just kill yourself and try again. I only made [challenge] cheevos for bosses you can control indirectly.

Some notes for other people who want to play this game (hopefully without spoiling the set):

The five achievements for earning blocks of puzzles must be done in puzzle mode. To access puzzle mode, you have to enter a code at the title screen that's given to you after defeating the secret boss and watching the credits. You cannot unlock them through normal play.

To reach the secret boss you have to visit all five treasuries in a single playthrough.
