So I was going to try a hack called Robotnik's Revenge (a time trial of all the bosses from the first two games), thinking that might be a good achievement source... and it linked directly to this game. Not sure how that happened...

The title of this game was changed within the last day from "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" to "Sonic The Hedgehog 2". I'm changing it back as an article in title does not need capitalization.

I'll be making a revision to this set soon (if that's ok).
It'll have achievements like:
Complete 'x' Zone without taking damage.
Complete 'x' Zone Act 1 under 'x' minutes 'y' seconds.
Complete 'x' Zone without killing an enemy.
Complete 'x' Zone with a Total Ring count of 'y' combined between acts.
Complete 'x' Zone without collecting a single Ring.
(there won't be a "Complete 'x' Zone" for every zone, just certain ones)
Complete a Boss without stepping on the floor.
Complete Aquatic Ruin Zone without entering the water.
Complete the whole game without Dying.
Beat the game in 50 minutes.

Only worth one point:
Die in the pit.
Play Hidden Palace Music.

I'll probably make the "Reach 'x' Zone" achievements worth less (maybe 5 points),
I'll maybe make worth less (maybe 5/10 points), since it isn't really difficult to defeat eggman after arriving in the last zone.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the achievement as it isn't anymore difficult than defeating the game as Sonic, and it would be annoying to complete the game as Sonic only to find you have to do it all over again as Tails just for this achievement when you could have just completed the game once. As far as I'm aware, Tails isn't any more difficult than Sonic. Because of this I'll probably demote this achievement.
I'll probably lower the points on a few others just to make room for the new achievements.

Let me know if there are any problems with this.

I disagree about Miles ahead. I always have a harder time beating the final boss with Tails because he doesn't jump as high and it is harder to jump over Dr Robotnik's claws to hit him. In fact, I have never been able to beat the game as Tails (or Knuckles in Sonic 2), but have beaten it as Sonic many times.

Your revision is approved but check the notes:

Complete 'x' Zone without taking damage.
| I think achievements of "Levels without taking damage" are extremely insane for a normal set, especially in a Sonic game that if you touch on anything you lose your rings, I think in that case it would be better achievements for "Defeat boss X without taking damage" .
But if only have one achievement to finish a certain zone without taking damage, that's fine, but not all stages. -- Matheus

Complete 'x' Zone Act 1 under 'x' minutes 'y' seconds.
| "Timer probably isn't saved between stages, this will probably not be possible." -- kdecks

| "And I don't know if it is 100% possible to create an achievement to "Finish the game in less than 50 minutes," I don't think the game has a timer for that." --Matheus

Only worth one point:
Die in the pit.
| "Cheeve the require bad playing don't belong in a set unless there is a very good reason for it." -- kdecks

Play Hidden Palace Music.

I'll probably make the "Reach 'x' Zone" achievements worth less (maybe 5 points),
I'll maybe make Defeat Dr RobotnikDefeat Dr Robotnik (30) worth less (maybe 5/10 points), since it isn't really difficult to defeat eggman after arriving in the last zone.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the achievement Miles Ahead (25) as it isn't anymore difficult than defeating the game as Sonic, and it would be annoying to complete the game as Sonic only to find you have to do it all over again as Tails just for this achievement when you could have just completed the game once. As far as I'm aware, Tails isn't any more difficult than Sonic. Because of this I'll probably demote this achievement.
| Vetoed by GameDragon.

I'll probably lower the points on a few others just to make room for the new achievements.

| In general try to keep the game difficulty balance in mind. https://retroachievements.github.io/docs/Difficulty-Scale-and-Balance/
You may consider a bonus set as well, not even the hardest of cheeves need to be in a bonus set, but at a certain point having too many challenges can make a set feel bloated -- kdecks

Achievements are unofficial now. I will add icons to them after I have made 100% sure they work.
The top 3 achievements have temporary icons, these will be changed.

Here are the achievements. Please message me if you are testing them out and any don't work.
- Works for me, tested quite a lot.
- Works for me, tested during creation, I will check again soon that this still works
- Works for me, tested about 3 times before uploading, seems to work, don't think there is any problems.
= Works for me, tested during creation, should still would
= Tested once, I will test again soon
= Tested once, will test again soon
= Tested once, test again soon
= Tested once, test again
= NOT tested yet, (since it is difficult), will give it a go soon
= NOT tested yet, (since it is also difficult), I'll try to complete it, it should work though

Achievement points should add up to 105 if I have counted correctly. (edited note: apparently I can't add as this is 110 total...)

If no-problems arise over the weekend and there are no comments, I'll upload these to core.

The following achievements will have their scores lowered so I can fit these ones in:
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 10 points to 5 points.
from 30 points to 10 points.
from 25 points to 20 points.
from 15 points to 5 points.
from 20 points to 10 points.
from 20 points to 15 points.
from 20 points to 10 points.

Hopefully this should add up to a total of 105 points, the points hopefully needed for my set. (edited note: once again, I suck at maths, this adds up to 110 points removed... it just so happens that's the amount that I needed, yay)

Does the floor is lava work for any boss?

Also nice work showing your work.

The Floor is Lava should work for any boss, I do not think that all bosses can be defeated without touching the ground, but I added the code in just incase. Unfortunately the bosses health changes depending on the zone, but I seen no disadvantage to making seperate checks for seperate levels (unless this takes up more memory on the server, in which case I can try to alter the achievement).

Some improvements to my achievement conditions have been made:

was altered, now uses 32bit Score instead of 16bit (otherwise it wouldn't detect that an enemy had been defeated if the player defeated an enemy when there score incremented past 0xffff)
was altered, previously it didn't work because a ResetIf triggered at the end of the first Act, this has been fixed now.
was altered, Alt 03: a ResetIf that checks if the timer had decreased at any point during Act 2 (via savestates) was replaced with what was Previously Alt 04. This is because for some reason this would reset once as soon as the act begun. I have created a new Alt 04, this one should be the same conditions as Alt 03 previously was but rearranged and altered very slightly to still prevent save state abusing in act 2. Also Core was altered to now use 32 bit score value (otherwise it would detect that an enemy was defeated if this would make 16bit score increment past 0xffff).

All:
A check that I was doing to see if the player was cheating (by playing whilst the game is paused) apparently triggers during Mystic Cave Zone Act 1 if the player pauses after jumping on the first Red Spring. I am replacing this check (which is on all achievements that I made) with one that'll ResetIf the player has level select enabled AND player is paused AND player pressed B or C.
I tested the achievements by completing the Act/Zone without doing what the description says, checking that I didn't earn the achievement, then completing the Act/Zone and doing what the description says, checking that I did earn the achievement.
For achievements which involve completing an Act or Zone, dying resets the achievement progress, this is intentional as otherwise this can be exploited (for example, after player respawns at a checkpoint enemies respawn as well, for Genocide Cave Zone players could just keep dying, respawning, then killing some enemies until in total they have defeated 39 enemies (which is the total enemies in Mystic Cave Zone (including boss)). Resetting if the player dies is a good way to prevent this. Other achievements can be exploited by dying, so I have prevented this by resetting).
I have altered Zero Deaths, now player must have been in each level at least once.
I have been unable to test Zero Deaths, however, I do believe that it will work as it's conditions are easier than other achievements that I have made in this revision.
All achievements have been given icons that I created. (I tried to replicate the style of the original achievements, constructive critizism is welcomed, also where is the stopwatch icon used in the original achievement set for the three timer based achievements? I searched all over the Internet and gave up and had to cut it out manually from those achievements.).
Achievements probably won't be altered any more, as I think I am done. I haven't altered any of the original achievements (except from their points), if you think that the conditions should be improved let me know and I'll happily try to alter them (for example, I could probably alter so that you can go directly to Aquatic Ruin Zone Act 1 from the Level Select instead of having to go to and finish Casino Night Zone Act 2 first).

TL;DR: Improvements were made.

If any issues are present please let me know.
If nothing needs resolving, I will upload these achievements to core sometime within the next few days. Maybe on the 22nd.
Huzzah!

Added new achievement,

Increased points of from 20 to 25.

Going to also decrease points of from 15 to 8, from 25 to 22, and and from 20 to 15.

I wanted to implement an achievement for collecting all lives that can be found ingame, but I didn't know how to implement that unfortunately.
I am still planning on uploading to core tomorrow.

Fixed a few achievement that would trigger after a Game Over.
Unfortunately I just found out that running out of time resets the timer to 0. I used the timer being 0 for a lot of achievements to ensure that the entire act had been completed, but due to this exploit I needed to change the following achievements:

I've added an Alt Condition, 0xf601 == 0x04 at least once. This means player must have been on the menu at least once. A PauseIf is used to Pause the ResetIf conditions so that this value isn't reset in levels where it the achievement conditions don't matter. Achievements that ResetIf a live was lost were also altered since lives didn't decrease when at menu (instead decreasing at the start of a level, triggering the ResetIf)
Also fixed a bug inwhich certain achievements would trigger if the pause button was pressed.
I have re-tested You're Too Slow, it seems to work.
I have re-tested Pacifist Hill Zone, it seems to work.
I have re-tested Aquaphobia Ruin Zone, it seems to work.
I have re-tested Ringless Night Zone, it seems to work.
I have tested King Fortress Zone, it seems to work.
King Fortress Zone has also been altered so that its progress Resets If the player loses a life.
There are a lot of ways to exploit this game, which is really annoying, so please tell me if you earn a certain achievement whilst doing something wierd, like getting a Game Over. I have tested the achievement in many conditions but there are bound to be ones that I do not know about. For example, I just found out that pausing during the death animation after dying whilst in the air caused to trigger (has been fixed).
I am probably going to make leaderboards tomorrow before I promote these achievements to core.
My achievement are starting to look like spaghetti and I'm not happy about it.
Currently I have a very bad headache from trying to exploit these achievements, then trying to fix them, and hearing kids screaming for hours outside my door doesn't help. Anyway, everything should be golden tomorrow, worst case scenario is finding out that every achievement can be unlocked by entering the second special stage or something stupid like that in which case I'll demote the achievements, try and fix them, fail at that and then give up.

I disagree with most of these challenge achievements being added to the core set. Plz consider a bonus set

ColonD
Posted: 30 Dec, 2017 01:07
I don't really see a disadvantage with the achievements being in core, I really don't think they are difficult at all and I do not think they will bloat the set. I'm fine with putting them in a bonus set but I just don't see any reason to do so, it would mean people would have to set up there game to support it, and people might not know that these achievements exist if they only see the main set, also I do not believe (correct me if I'm wrong as I'm guessing) that you can unluck bonus achievements at the same time as unlocking the main set, so the player would have to have two seperate instances of the game for achievements of similar difficulty. I don't understand what advantage the achievements would have in a bonus set. I would consider achievements for a bonus set if they were types of achievements like: beat the entire game without getting hit, beat act x in y seconds (as minimal as possible), perfect every level, etc. My friend who recommended to me that some more achievements would be nice for this game said that they would prefer the achievements not in a bonus set.
I would like to know why you disagree with these achievements being in the main set. I'll postpone uploading them so that I can hear your opinion. I was going to upload them on the 22nd but I got really busy and I didn't have the opportunity.

Agree with Lootus, do the bonus set instead and increase challenge if needed.
