What's Boktai about? I've heard people taking about it but never played it :S
Posted: 02 Jun, 2013 01:53
It's about...mmm... hunting vampires i'd say ;
also, you need to patch the roms to play it, because the game was builded with a "Solar Sensor" : with that, the game keeps changing depending on your region's weather (rain, sunny etc), also, the solar sensor was mostly for using the sunlight in the game.
Boktai games should be in the Top 30 (atleast) best GBA games. They are awesome.

Hey everyone, I love the 3 Boktai games and I was really surprised to see that not a single one has achievements.
What needs to be done to change that? Hehe
I myself would like to give a shot at making achievements but I still wasn't able to find in the forums a how to.
EDIT: Found it, I'm gonna try my luck and see how it works.

I have never played a Boktai game.

@DonCosmo I really recommend playing them! They're fun and challenging and to be honest I'd say that they're an amazing underrated series from Kojima

Some GBA EMulators have the option to adjust the sunlight sensor, for me it's mgba. R3 and L3 adjust the sensor while playing.

kinda hard play this one with RetroAchievements because you need to play with an mobile emulator with solar sensor. Else, the devs on achievements should be deliberate on using solar tricks. Very difficult.

Plan/ideas for core set (71 by my count, with some half-assed titles): https://pastebin.com/raw/bJwYEYLp
If someone wants to add more interesting details in the Rich Presence script, feel free. I don't recommend bothering with displaying the MC's name, because the character table is different between versions and would be very long if handled correctly (or look garbled depending on the version if handled incorrectly).

Done, to be promoted in 1.5 day. I dropped a couple of redundant ones and the tree-growing related entries in the plan, because of messy memory. I don't think it's a big loss since other achievements require performing the same tasks. Also, I was quite lazy with icons. If someone wants to improve them feel free.
The Japanese version was used for development as part of the RetroAchievements Cool Japan initiative. Memory is expected to be compatible with the (U) and (E) versions (briefly tested). All the addresses used are language-independent.
Linked (J), (U), (E), and the same files patched using the Solar Sensor Patch Kit 2.2.0.
Patching is necessary to play on RAVBA or other emulators that do not emulate the solar sensor.
Took the liberty of changing the icon for clarity at all scales. As it was an empty set I doubt anyone was particularly attached to it as a placeholder, and the people responsible for icon replacement votes are being slow about it. Link to the original icon is below, so if the vote occurs later on it can be switched back if needed.
(J) - 9f1c1202ed1d856c5836cee6818a171e
(J) (Solar Sensor Patched) - 0e44820ed298f61c4876c9832a756501
(U) - ff75c62ab690410cc8fca24204d783e9
(U) (Solar Sensor Patched) - fbd3cd779cbab4329c0ad936d53869c6
(E) - c8b49c53003b8d9a15d91a5a5d5cc91b
(E) (Solar Sensor Patched) - 34edcacd461a1d0e5d439dc95b0c46b8
For those who want a more authentic experience, I recommend dosing the sunlight level conservatively, as a full gauge on a real system is very rare in temperate regions outside of bright summer days. The solar sensor is related to the UV ray exposure. Messing with the sun whenever convenient renders things like the bank, loans, rising sun grenade, etc. irrelevant.
Also, don't mess with the clock to get what you want.
