Its a bad port for sure, personally I found 32x with the right shaders and ram cart enabled was better that Snes. Tbh I'm not a fan of doom ports generally But till the day DOS doom gets chevos its all we got :)

horrible port

You clearly have no clue about technology of the time if you think this is a bad port. It's pretty much the most impressive of all the original ones by far, a lot of work was done for this one.

A totally new and impressive engine for a SNES (yes, it looks bad, and plays rather bad, but you're on SNES). Name a single 3D game on the system having that much textures and content. There's no other.

It's clearly not the best way to enjoy Doom and I totally agree with people thinking it's barely playable at some point, but what they achieved with this game running on SNES is clearly HUGE for the time.

One thing I found to speed it up is to overclock Super FX in SNES9X. Around 400% seems to work fine for me. This way it is at least playable.

Dammit! Who went in and added new achievements?! This set was already done and didn't need anything new. WHY?! Now anyone that completed and mastered it has to do it again!!

You can't call yourself a Doomgod or say "I'm already mastered Doom" if you not beat it on "Nightmare!" skill.

If this was for another version (Say GBA for example) I'd be all over that, but the SNES version is SO unplayable due to framerate issues and control bugs... it makes me want to wipe all the achievements I've earned so as not to have to do it again

I mean you get stuck to the wall any time you touch it. How about removing the new ones here and putting them on the GBA version? Compromise? :-D

Have you at least tried playing on Nightmare skill? It's not like PC version. Monsters aren't respawning, just fast. Some monsters are missing. Nightmare here close to Ultra-Violence on PC. C'mon, I beat all 3 episodes on "Nightmare!" when I was kid.

As for GBA version, every achievement there should worth 1 point. Look at retro points. Set doens't have cheat protection (maybe have now) and beating the game on "I'm too young to die!" is enough to get most achievements.

I've been playing DOOM on and off since it first came out on the PC. I won an early PC gaming DOOM multiplayer tournament. I'm just fine at DOOM. The SNES version just sucks!

Also when you changed the scoring for all the other achievements for beating the game on UV, you really screwed a lot of people over. By taking all their points away for individual levels and forcing them to re-complete the game to get them back.

I'll do it anyway, only thing that bothers me is that it makes 75% of the set useless as all achievements are "finish X level on UV or higher", which is not very inventive but works fine considering it's difficult to come up with various >

> achievements for this game. I'd have prefered "finish X boss" or "X episode" or "X level" on Nightmare using only "X weapon" / not using "X weapon at all" "without picking X powerup" etc etc... Just an idea.

Those are great ideas - again, since the SNES version SUCKS for aforementioned reasons, maybe implement those ideas on a playable version IE the GBA version? :-D

Well, I could change the new Nightmare cheevos to "beat the episode on Nightmare skill without using weapon better than shotgun" and add more challenge cheevos.

If you worry about taking points I could set new achievements worth to 0 points each (untail the cap of 400 points will be removed) and add ~10 of them but you still will need to do them all to get mastered rank.
